Facial Aesthetic FAQs

What is botulinum toxin?

Botulinum toxin is the unbranded version of Botox. Safe and backed by years of scientific research, it’s a temporary injectable treatment that works by ‘freeing’ the underlying facial muscles. This has the effect of smoothing out deep expression lines and is especially effective between the eyes, on the forehead and on crow’s feet. Botulinum toxin is temporary, so treatment needs to be renewed every few months to maintain the effects.

How does botulinum toxin work?

We place the anti-wrinkle treatment in targeted areas to block the signal from the nerve to the nerve endings. So when you laugh or frown, your skin looks and feels smoother.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in our skin and which is responsible for cell renewal. Injected into the face, dermal fillers literally fill the spaces where volume has been lost over time – particularly useful on the lips and cheekbones, and the lines that run between nose and mouth. Dermal fillers can also be used to contour areas of the face to achieve a more sculpted look. The treatment is temporary and must be renewed every few months to maintain the effects.

How long do the results last?

Both botulinum toxin and dermal fillers are temporary and you can expect the results to last for up to six months. After this, you may need to return to Winchmore Hill Dental Practice for further treatment to maintain the results.
